The Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, often called just Brighton, is a professional football team from England based in Brighton and Hove. They play in the Premier League, which is the highest level of football in England. The team's home stadium is the Falmer Stadium in Falmer, with a capacity of 31,876.
The club was established in 1901 and is known by the nicknames "Seagulls" or "Albion". Brighton started out playing in the Southern League before joining the Football League in 1920. They had a successful period in the First Division from 1979 to 1983, even making it to the FA Cup final in 1983, although they lost to Manchester United in a replay. Sadly, they were relegated in the same season.
In the late 1990s, Brighton found themselves struggling in the fourth tier of English football and facing financial difficulties. Just when things seemed dire, a new board took over and saved the club from going under after a close call with relegation in 1997. Thanks to back-to-back promotions in 2001 and 2002, Brighton made their way back up to the second tier. Then, in 2011, a huge milestone was reached as the club finally got their own home at the Falmer Stadium after 14 years of being without a permanent ground.
The 2016-17 season was a historic one for Brighton as they finished second in the EFL Championship, earning a long-awaited promotion to the Premier League after a 34-year absence from the top flight. Fast forward to the 2022-23 season, and Brighton achieved their highest-ever finish in the Premier League, coming in sixth place. This accomplishment not only secured them a spot in the UEFA Europa League but also marked their very first venture into European club football.
